Das Racist / Mad Decent Mixtape + Video Game

September 2, 2010

Our incredibly-intelligent-but-pretend-to-be-slobs homies Das Racist are busy as ever with a new video game and forthcoming mixtape. You can try playing the game by clicking on the pic above… The goal is to get to the show before the end of our collab tune “Who’s That Browwn” by running, jumping, ascending elevators, and dodging what appears to be Hawaiian girls throwing leis at you. When I played it, I died in like 30 seconds.

Below is the trailer for the new Das Racist X Mad Decent X Greedhead mixtape “Sit Down, Man” that highlights a track I did for them called “All Tan Everything.” This one’s about to blow people. Away.

VIDEO: Seattle 100 – Portrait of a City

September 2, 2010

Seattle 100: Portrait of a City from 4Culture on Vimeo.

Awhile back, Chase Jarvis hit us up to be featured in his photo book Seattle 100: Portrait of a City featuring portraits and biographies of 100 Seattle creatives. And now, the book is set for release with a launch party during the upcoming City Arts Fest before it hits retail. We’re honored to be a part of this project, and it’s dope to hear one of our instrumentals as the soundtrack in the promo video (above). Check the description:

Seattle 100: Portrait of a City is the culmination of a two-year personal project by renowned photographer, filmmaker, and social artist Chase Jarvis. Seattle 100 shares more than 300 stunning blackand white portraits and biographies of each subject- a curated collection of leading artists, musicians, writers, scientists, restaurateurs, DJs, developers, activists, entrepreneurs, filmmakers, all of whom are defining and driving culture in Seattle.

Seattle based artist, Chase Jarvis, in collaboration with Small Lot Co-Op, Terra Blanca Winery, and Theo Chocolate will release a Seattle 100 book, collection of Seattle 100 wines and a Seattle 100 Theo Chocolate bar all benefitting the nonprofit, 4Culture.

A full 100 percent of proceeds from the book, wines, and chocolate bars will directly benefit 4Culture.

This book will be available at chasejarvis.com/seattle100 and at major book retail stores in the Seattle area and online.

The five hour drive to Wazzu (I don’t care what anyone says, I’m gonna call it that for the rest of my life) is always worth it. Rival territory for Huskies like ourselves, but one thing I know is that this school parties like a mug. Makes sense, as there’s not much else to do in Pullman. We’ve seen it firsthand several times on past trips, but this time we came through for Cougfest-sans-Coolio with a whole mob of 206ers: Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, Grynch, DJ Nphared, Sol, Lace Cadence & Neema to name a few. Lots of stagediving and trees everywhere. In short, it was memorable night. So memorable that I aint even upset at leaving the extra rolls of film at the hotel before the show. In fact, it’s probably best that I did. Read more

Grynch / My Volvo Remix

August 31, 2010

Not long ago, our buddy Grynch hit me up to do a remix for his local hit, My Volvo. I said “sure buddy, on 3 conditions:
1. you permit me to make the tune sound even more pop-like,
2. you let me follow you around your neighborhood for an afternoon with a camera, and
3. you write an essay about something Ballard-y.”

He agreed.

You can check out the full editorial piece here

Download the remix here.

Happy Birthday To OOF!

August 25, 2010

Speaking of OOF!, it turned a year old today. Long time no see, Hawaii. Got me all reminiscing on our last trip watching these videos. All the best ones feature Bambu. It’s like dude is a shenanigan magnet.

MUSIC: P2daHI x Amature – Whatupdoe From BLAT!

August 17, 2010

See, this is why the OOF! EP included all the riddim tracks. To see what kind of cross-pollination would occur should anyone out there feel the impulse to reinterpret our work, the same way we do others, in this thing called hip-hop. P2daHI and The Amature crafted the six-track Whatupdoe from BLAT! as an ode to our 2009 Hawaii-themed EP, backed by all six OOF! riddims. It’s refreshing to see both the similarities and differences between this project and ours, but essentially hearing two dudes who approached their project the same way: talk story, have fun. Featuring a distorted vocal cameo from Sabzi.
