When all else fails, listening to old records and watching garbage TV always somehow provides refuge from the songwriting rut. Here’s an example.

One: I was bumping some old Sade in anticipation of her new Soldier of Love album. Two, I was flipping channels during halftime of a UW basketball game and landed on Fox News, where Michelle Malkin was back at it doing what she does best, spewing the same old same: Tea Party this, moonbats that. But for the first time in my life, I agreed with her on something: You rappers need to go get a job!

As fate would have it, Sade’s “Feel No Pain” (Love Deluxe, 1992) has a vocal sample with her singing the line “get a job.” What are the chances? So I flipped the beat, sampled the vocals, and wrote this song about my favorite neo-conservative Filipina blogger. And what better timing to share it with you all than on the week that Sade’s new album drops?

I wish all songs came this easily. Don’t you miss when overt racists were in power? Enjoy.

  2. Thanks for the download as always… Texas today reminded me of the “coffee & snow” video, popped on saw the bagong bago… also jus wanted to say. Almond joys got nuts and mounds don’t. And while I liken to make beats… I don’t claim to be a producer… Same wit the flows don’t claim to be MC… however, i suppose people will do what they do. Growing up, having moved to the States at the age of 7, I was always curious about the music, but sheltered. In retrospect, I realized that my high school shut down the b-boys and “rappers” and that it jus wasn’t an environment that could allow Hip Hop culture to thrive… No acceptance… I’ve hardly known Pilipino’s here so when I was able to visit Seattle in ’06 I ended up at The Showbox with a friend… Sheeeit… Even got to hear the skeptics that spoke of you and RA. Hey, sorry for the long story… Guess I jus wanted to say that it wasn’t clear til I saw The Scholars, The Guns, The Market, AC & Macklemore… Here’s to those memories… And I hope you guys can make it to Dallas again sometime… So I can catch you outside, but not get too close, Say, “Geo!” and chunk a deuce cuz I’d be too starstruck to approach… Haha… Have a good one…

Michelle Malkin is an Uncle Tom Asian person.
Malcolm X used to talk about ‘field’ slaves and ‘house’ slaves.
Michelle Malkin is most definitely a ‘house’ slave.

    • Who are you to call anybody an Uncle Tom or a “house slave”? As if the Filipino-American experience and the African-American experience are one in the same.

I disagree with what she has to say, but just because she doesn’t share the same views as a majority of the Filipino-American diaspora her opinion isn’t worth anything?

And I think to say that no native Filipinos have a “white last name” like Malkin disenfranchises a whole slew of mixed-race people Philippines. I feel like if you’re Fil-Am it’s okay if you act “black” but if you’re anything else, and God forbid “white washed” in America. Break down racial barriers while you build some new ones, right?

And I’ll cut off whoever will say “chill man, it’s just a song” cause Blue Scholars’ music was never just “songs” It’s a form of protest, and a form of poetry at the same time.
