TOUR BLOG: DAY 1 – POMONA, CA

- Geo Freshly Dipped Tour 2008

On the grueling 18-hour drive from Seattle, we watched Zoo, a docudrama about the dude who let a horse fuck him to death (no hippo). My review at prometheusbrown.com will be coming shortly.

After hitting traffic in Portland and a few longer-than-expected stops in such exotic locales like Weed, CA we missed out on what would have been one final night of rest in Oakland at Ruby’s (of Ill-Literacy) launchpad. Not arriving in the Bay until 5am, we ate breakfast at Lucky Chances.

Since my first pilgrimage to the Daly City casino/restaurant back in 2001, Lucky Chances has become the final puzzle piece of any trip we make to the Bay, mostly due to the Tapsilog and other Filipino breakfast dishes served 24-hours. Afterwards, we crashed in the parking lot until the sun slapped us in the grill and said “go.” As we left, we witnessed a heated exchange between a man and his wife via cellphone, complete with classic, yet tragic quotables like “I’m a grown-ass man. I don’t neeeeeed to tell you where the fuck I am right now.”

Now we’re back in Occupied Mexico (aka Southern California) at the Glass House in Pomona, where the Freshly Dipped Tour officially kicks off in about 10 minutes with Knobody and Tanya Morgan on deck. Word is, Del will be joining the tour on select dates, and Las Vegas was just added to the tour itinerary (Monday, July 14 – Beauty Bar).

Tomorrow: Los Angeles stand up! We return to El Rey for the first time since rocking with GZA in March.

I just noticed that you guys will be ending this tour at the Catalyst Club in Santa Cruz. Great venue! I saw 311 there back in 1999 and 2006 (that’s a tour hint. I’d love to see you guys tour with them…make it happen!). I had been planning to trek back to Austin to see you at “Emo’s” later this month, but this NorCal show is going to save me a lot of money. Thank you!

    Drive safe!

I drove down from Seattle myself on July 10th, Thurs.(prob around the same day you guys drove down here) Non stop 18 hour drive. I knew you guys were performing in LA and i wanted to go real bad, but I totally forgot about it once i got home, I went from thinking “Damn i gotta go to that Blue Scholars show!” to “Damn i need to visit my homie so and so.” So bummed out, i wish i would’ve remembered. When r u guys coming back to LA?

Good Luck with the rest of the Tour!
