VIDEO: Portland (the last time we were here)
VideoThe photo below was just taken a few minutes ago from my friend Thuy’s apartment.
Our show in Portland tonight is the last of our 3 day trip in Oregon.
While I was gazing out the window this afternoon, I randomly remembered a video that my buddy Ed had sent me from our last show in Portland. When I first saw it, I thought “yea yea, just another video somebody took from their phone of a rap show” but as I continued to watch it I realized that it was a little more than that.
This clip in particular is memorable to me because it reminds me just how much this whole Blue Scholars thing has grown into something that even Geo and I underestimate. At the end of the set we played at Hawthorne Theater last April, people started running up onto the stage and created an environment of absolute insanity. [Somebody even stole my hat from right off my head, which I don't condone =) ]
Now, those of you that have been to clubs and concerts full of “modern day DSLR photographers” in the audience know from experience that event photos are typically about 85% lies. You can see pictures of a show posted on the internet the day after and think “wow! that looks like it was amazing!” but when you actually are there, it’s not that big a deal at all.
This video is crazy cuz it’s a piece of crap in terms of quality, but there’s no denying that the energy in the building was high, and that it was all of you in attendance that made it what it was.
Geo and I make the music, but it’s the rest of you out there listening and participating that fill these events with the energy that make them so exciting. Thank you for that.
And we’re doing it again tonight! I hope for my own enjoyment that tonight is gonna be as nutty as our last show in Portland was. Wonder Ballroom
